Video: Our Lady of Guadalupe

Sunday and Monday night was the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Streets were closed, tamales were given away and tuba music filled the air.

What a ruckous good time!
Brings 2 things to mind: I just learned about a super book by Don Normark "Chavez Ravine" 1949 - I'm pretty sure you are familiar with it. In it the author touches on Our Lady of Guadalupe and its importance to the Mexican heritige community.
The 2nd is that I'm sorry I missed Goran Bregovic (http://www.goranbregovic.rs/)from the part of the world I originated from and his Wedding and Funeral Orchestra when they played at the Disney Hall this fall. He was a ethno-rock star in former Yugoslavia (had a extremely popular band Bijelo Dugme - White Button) and it's good his as a much broader musician/creator (sort of like Elvis Costello). ... Thanks for the opportunity to share.

Fellini Amarcord, and I'm dying for a good tamale.

Kevin, these all bring back images of the Dia de los Muertos festival here. For many of us it's the only real contact we have with our Hispanic population's culture. Now that our government , in its infinite wisdom, has passed the horrendous immigration laws, it is even more important that we celebrate it.
