It takes a bit of nerve to go with grain now that we are in the digital age, but IMO it still can add positive things to the right image. I did one a couple years back of the Lincoln Memorial which just wasn't cutting it emotionally until I added some graininess. I think depending on the subject it can provide a feeling of longevity, permanence, or even timelessness. I think visually it compliments the emptiness of the kitchen, too.
