Angles and contrasts in light make it powerful. I like Petrea's "Shut in." Now that she says it, that's it precisely!

Kevin, thanks for hipping me to that NYT story. There are hundreds of small, homey buildings like that in Manhattan, holdouts against faceless monstrosities that are filling the city, even as wages are falling here for the first time in 40 years. That is a Trump building in the background. GReenwich Village is full of old tenements of course, but go to upper east side, it's all faceless high rises. It ain't your father's NY anymore.

I could stare at this for hours and keep finding more about it to love. That light at the top of the stair is just so wonderful. And the lines. and that high contrast. And, well, everything.
