Beautiful. I’ve long felt that trees make the best churches. Of course, vineyards are nice too.

These candles, especially when found close to sidewalks, are never a good sign.

As the hiker says, perhaps not a good sign. I don't remember this tradition from Illinois. The first time I saw it was on a trip to Mexico with my then boyfriend, who was Mexican. He explained the tradition to me as we drove along the most precarious mountain road I've ever experienced. There were countless roadside memorials.

These iconic candles are displayed on an end cap of my local
supermarket, next to 'ethnic' foods. But I do not fear; I'm always polite to my fellow shoppers and grocery clerks.
