Paranoid vision after chewing a fist full of J-Weed seeds...

I agree about the color. But, hey, if you take a photo of a painting, is that your original work? I've always been confused about that.

Do you have anything in a pastel? A lilac or mauve perhaps?

Scott's question is interesting. Where's this mural? It's yowza.

Thanks, Petrea.

It's downtown, near Pico and 9th I believe. I goosed up the colors to make it look fresher but its definetly not my original work; the artist's credit is underneatth the shot.

We all do it - take photos of other peoples' work. At least I do. I like to photograph the street art I find in Pasadena. I think it's a good thing, it promotes them. I'd never have known of this mural if you hadn't told me.

I've never seen this one before, either. Wow, K. I love the hypersaturation of color. It really makes it go BOOM.

I tried to shoot toward an artist's work at one of the South Pas arts fairs on Mission -- I was actually shooting a very interesting looking retro looking guy walking past some very interestin Mondrian-type work. I got an earful and grabby hands at my camera by the very, very, VERY angry artist. I was kind of taken aback since all the artists in my family LOVE promotion. I said I wouldn't put up anything against an artist's will, and I apologized, but upon later reflection I think it was kind of BS. If you are showing on a public sidewalk, it's not like a private gallery where you can decide who can snap pictures. Still, I always respect someone's wishes not to be photographed.

That experience kind of made me wary about ever shooting public art.

You had a legal right to shoot that photo as you know, Laurie, though of course I think you're right to respect the artist's request. Too bad for the artist. Missed his/her chance to be on your blog.

I've been taken some time to stroll around your blog, check out your web site and view some of your YouTube videos. Your work is tremendous. I love the sense of mystery that your images evoke and your play with light. Your portraits are amazing. I think portrait photography is difficult. It's hard to capture the essence of an individual and you did a remarkable job documenting these beautiful people.

Great, playful video work.

I love the 3D quality of this photo. The gun really pops out at your and tricks your eye. Very nice.

Yeowza! I give. I'll take you to my (current) leader and you can do whatever you want with him. Heh heh.

Hahaha! Jon Wolff is the angriest dog on earth. (david lynch reference.) I know all too well. And he has good reason, he's been ripped off by "well meaning people who claimed to be photographing the work for some magazine or something and then used it for, oh, video production on MTV and album covers and other commercial ventures without copyright. Just because you are showing it does not mean everyone has carte blanche to it to do what ever they want. (Understanding is important.) The date of the mural is incorrect. Jon painted that mural in the early 1990s, circa 94-95. I know, I was there.
