Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled

My friend and neighbor, Sandi McCree has a new webisode. Please do me a favor and take a look.

You might recognize Sandi from her role in “The Wire” (greatest tv show ever.)

Another friend of mine, Mark Zipoli, has his new novel, The Long Habit of Living, out and is available on Amazon.

Last but certainly not least my good friend Michael Lally has a new CD of his poetry, Lost Angels here.* It includes his very well known anti-war (and prophetic) poem, March 18, 2003. Michael is also the author of It's Not Nostalgia, which won an American Book Award.

*And now available at Amazon as well as CD Baby and downloadable at iTunes.

From John Rabe of KPCC:

"Dear listeners,
The LA photographer Kevin McCollister just sent me his slim but elegant collection of photos of LA, titled "East of West LA." The photo above, "LA River," is in the book.

...The book is worth having."

ArtWorks Magazine

A nice review of "East of West LA" is in the Summer issue of ArtWorks Magazine.

"Gritty and often lonely but surprisingly hopeful...the power of his imagery comes from simplicity of purpose; in this case, to see what so many have never noticed."

"East of West LA" can be purchased at Book Soup, Hennessey + Ingalls, Skylight Books, The Stephen Cohen Gallery and Metropolitan Books. It can also purchased online from Small Press Distributors.

Cotton Candy Popcorn

"...something I can't afford to be without - not in today's market. (Silly me! I almost said not in today's world, but that would have been inaccurate. A world is something whole, isn't it, something that can be said to have a positive charge and rhythm of its own. A world is also something we can take comfort in being a part of, but that has all been lost. It has all been lost, so that all we have left is a dirty stinking bazaar, a rat race, where everything, including the health and care of one's body is measured in terms of commerce. Now there is no rhythm. Now there is the universal equivalent of giant, legal fingernails being pulled across a blackboard, and the blackboard is owned by an insurance company posing as a long-lost friend."

Friday Flower (On A Thursday Night)

Congratulations to my friend and co-worker Carmen Mitchell. Her very popular webisode "Real Girls Guide to Everything Else" was profiled yesterday on NPR. Listen to it here.

I just finished "Rise and Shine," Simon Lewis' harrowing true story and will now read Wiliam Michaelian's chapbook of short stories, "Among The Living."

Finally, I'm going to follow in Petrea's footsteps. She has "Zen Monday" at her blog Pasadena Daily Photo. As of last week, I'm attempting Flower Friday or Friday Flower or Flower Power Friday or something.
